Power Player Morning Routines

Ever started your morning out on the wrong side of the bed? Our #PowerPlayers came together to share their morning routines. Check out the below roundup for a peek inside our favorite ways to consume news, daily skincare routines, and more morning tasks that occur before the sun comes up.

April

My mornings are all about the 3 C’s. Coffee, my pug Calvin, and more coffee! While I have never been a morning person and am known to hit snooze probably more than I should, I am usually up pretty early during the week. I enjoy the quiet and find it helps me feel calm before I start a busy day. When I’m good, I will go for a two mile walk at my neighborhood park. I’ll then pick up a big cup of coffee and head home. I then wake up Calvin (he’s not a morning dog either) and we head out for his walk. After that is all done, I’m able to sip my coffee, watch the TODAY Show and prepare for the work day!

No matter what, the first thing I always do is turn on NBC5 morning news to get my local fix before the TODAY show comes on at 7 am. On a good day I wake up at 5:50 am and go to a 6:30 spin class at Class Studios. From there, I head home to shower and get ready for the day. No matter if I sleep in or workout, I always drink a cup of  coffee from my Keurig — my favorite flavor is a Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll K-Cup with Coffee Mate’s Italian Sweet Cream Sugar Free creamer. I never skip making my bed, but I do skip on breakfast until I get to the office. Since we have a kitchen at TPG, I always bring ingredients to make my go-to scrambled egg and potato hash around 10 am.

Now that I am not chasing children around amid a flurry of backpacks, breakfast bars and homework my routine is more centered on my own wellness and personal growth and development. Coffee is absolutely first. I gave up the Keurig and prefer to grind and brew my own coffee. I start my day by reading my devotional and think about how my day will be and what I want to create. I also list three things for which I am grateful. Practicing gratitude is a proven way to put your day and your entire life into perspective.

There’s nothing better than a leisurely morning. On a perfect day, I love doing my makeup with a cup of coffee, my Nespresso machine is my go-to, and a podcast. My current favorite is The Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast. This is a great way to take a moment for myself before jumping into the craziness of the day.

My favorite mornings begin with Ella Leuphold’s Cycle45 class at 6:30 am. From there, I head home and make a latte with my Nespresso. I always check my work and personal email before I start getting ready to clean up my inbox and get in the right headspace for the day. While I get ready, I watch the news to catch up on anything local and national that I need to know. When I head to work, I like to turn on one of my favorite Spotify playlists for the drive. Over the years I have created a pretty robust ‘Oldies’ playlist that is my go-to.

I love to wake up before the crack of dawn to head to Class Studios, especially to take the 5:30 am Cycle Class. Once I get home, I hop in the shower then immediately crawl back into bed to snuggle with my dog, Teddy. While getting ready, I turn on whatever show I’m binge-watching at the time. Right now, I’m re-watching Grey’s Anatomy for the eighth time. After I make breakfast and take Teddy for a walk, I drive to the office or school while listening to Betches’ Not Another True Crime Podcast

After snoozing my alarm a minimum of two times, I roll out of bed and immediately make my way to the kitchen for a cup of coffee. While I get ready for the day, I typically listen to my favorite song of the week on repeat – my current favorite is ‘Lose You To Love Me’ by Selena Gomez. Once the song is officially stuck in my head for the rest of the day, I switch on an episode of The Office as I make breakfast for my roommate and myself. After my roommate and I have discussed our schedules for the day, I reluctantly walk to our apartment parking garage and slowly make my way to school.

Morning is easily my favorite time of the day, because I get to enjoy a little quiet time. After my morning workout, I always have a glass of Twining Earl Grey Tea. And sometimes, if I’m feeling fancy, I’ll make it a London Fog with some frothed Malk Vanilla Almond Milk. I then watch TODAY while I complete my morning skincare routine (I never forget sunscreen!) and makeup. Then, I’m out the door in a flurry with my homemade Be Well Smoothie in tow. On my way to the office, I always give my Dad a call and we catch up before I get to work!

A typical morning for me begins with morning kisses from my sweet pup, Harley. How can you have a bad day after that? After dragging myself out of bed, I either head over to Class Studios or Equinox for a quick morning sweat sesh.  Power Yoga at Equinox or Train 45 at Class are my go-to’s. Once I have my workout in, I can finally enjoy my morning coffee. My daily skincare and makeup routine is pretty simple and only takes me about 15 minutes before heading to the office to start my day!

As an owner of a very needy pup, my mornings revolve around my dog, Indy. I usually get up a few hours before I head out for work to play fetch or take him for a walk. This allows us both to get a little exercise in and start the day off feeling good. After feeding Indy, I like to turn on the Pod Save America podcast to get some news highlights while cooking breakfast. Once I’ve eaten my breakfast of Kodiak cakes, eggs and bacon I wrap my morning up by putting on makeup and heading to work.

If I am not waking up early for a workout class at District Climb, I like to take my time getting ready for work. Without my endorphin rush, coffee is a must for me in the morning – I take my Keurig coffee with a dash of Trader Joe’s vanilla almond milk. In order to start my day off on the right foot, I always make my bed and try to always make time for a simple breakfast. While I get ready I typically listen to music, catch up on my personal emails, read my daily newsletters and make a to-do list for the day.
