Power Picks; A Guide to Eating Healthy in Dallas

If there’s one thing Dallas is not lacking in, it’s dining options! From fast food to fine dining, this city has you covered. Our team recently pulled together a list of our favorite healthy spots to grab a bite to eat. Check out some of these highly recommended restaurants below!

Julia
Origin Kitchen + Bar
Origin is one of my go-to places for a healthy meal in Dallas, whether it’s for brunch, lunch or dinner. My favorite thing on the menu is the Warm Brussels Sprout Salad served with avocado and either a burger patty or shrimp, depending on my mood. Origin has quite a few paleo and Whole30 friendly items available, making it a great place for those looking to grab a meal that won’t hurt their diet goals. Another fan favorite are the Brussel Sprout or Seasonal Hash Bowls.

The GEM Organic Food & Juice Bar
One of my favorite healthy places in Dallas is The GEM! They have the freshest juices, smoothies and wellness shots, not to mention their grab and go items. My go-to is the Super Sapphire. It has little bits of Medjool date in it that are so tasty! I also can’t leave without grabbing the Jalapeno Hummus. It has so much flavor and is delicious on gluten-free crackers, carrots or celery.

Sommer
Crisp & Green
In my opinion, #PowerClient Crisp & Green offers the freshest and most delicious scratch-made healthy cuisine Dallas has to offer. Their diverse menu full of reasonably priced salads, grain bowls and smoothies cater to a wide-range of taste buds, so even your pickiest friends and family members are sure to find something they love at C&G. I definitely recommend ordering a signature salad or grain bowl and then making modifications from there. My go-to order is the Fiesta Bowl – I’m a big Tex-Mex and Southwest cuisine girl, so the Fiesta Bowl is the perfect choice to enjoy my favorite flavors in a healthy way. I’ve had the Fiesta Bowl five times in the past two weeks if that tells you anything…

Dream Cafe
One of the first breakfast spots I visited when I moved to Dallas was Dream Cafe. Located right down the street from my apartment, I fell in love with the welcoming atmosphere and delicious food. Those looking to eat healthy will find locally-sourced and organic ingredients throughout the restaurant’s extensive menu. You can find vegan and vegetarian substitutions such as soy cheese and veggie sausage. Dream Cafe also offers hormone-free meat. Some of my favorite dishes include avocado toast, the Glorified Omelette and granola.

Kortni
Flower Child
Flower Child is definitely one of my favorite spots for a healthier meal! I love to order the Mother Earth Bowl with chicken. It is super delicious and nutritious. The Rosewood Court location has a bar with creative cocktail options too! Other healthy meals I enjoy are the Brussel Sprout Bowl from Origin, The Bold & The Buffalo grain bowl from #PowerClient Crisp & Green, and I always love the Spicy Southwest Salad from Chick-fil-A.

Caroline
HG Sply Co.
I’ve only lived in Dallas for three months, but it didn’t take me long to find HG Sply Co. They have locations in Dallas, Fort Worth and Trophy Club. The Dallas location is on Greenville Avenue and the rooftop has a beautiful view of the skyline. All of the items on the lunch and dinner menus can be prepared gluten and dairy free to meet your dietary needs or preferences. The food at HG is natural, fresh, clean AND delicious! Not to mention the drink menu is unique and tasty! The menu at HG Sply Co. is pretty extensive, so I don’t have a go-to order. However, one of my personal favorites is Crispy Ranch Chicken with a Strawberry Smash to drink.

Kiara
Sundown at Granada
When I want something lighter but still husband-approved, I always choose Sundown! There’s something for every diet on the menu. They offer lighter fare that still fills you up, like the Wild Caught Salmon with broccolini risotto. They also have delicious salads that are far from rabbit food and even healthy burger options. You really can’t go wrong! Not to mention, the restaurant often has live music and a covered, heated patio. The ambiance and the menu make for a perfect date night spot if you’re trying to stay on track!

Amy
TJs Seafood Market and Grill
What it lacks in ambiance it generously makes up for in quality and preparation of its high-quality seafood. A Dallas staple, TJ’s is my go-to for a healthy and enjoyable lunch. Select your fish (I always go for the Sea Bass) and ask for the ‘simple’ grilled option. I replace one of the sides with an extra side of steamed squash and zucchini and Voila! a guiltless and fulfilling meal. Since the Pandemic, I’ve had it delivered several times to my office. I’m getting hungry just writing this!

Jennifer
bellagreen
One of my favorite places to visit for lunch or weekend brunch is bellagreen. Not only does it have several sustainability practices, all of the menu items feature fresh ingredients and are packed with flavor. I personally love that many of the pasta dishes are already made with gluten-free noodles so you don’t have to worry about that upcharge. The Grilled Salmon Pasta is my go-to favorite dish and the perfect portion for lunch. If you are looking for a salad option, the Blackened Shrimp Salad is to die for! If you’re near Walnut Hill and 75 in Dallas or up in the Park and Preston area in Plano, definitely check out bellagreen.

Catie
Origin Kitchen + Bar
When I was playing soccer in college, my teammates and I had a tradition of getting brunch from the same place on game days and of course, it had to be healthy to fuel us for the 90 minutes of play just hours later. We were lucky enough to all fall in love with Origin Kitchen + Bar! This quaint restaurant is the perfect chill atmosphere for breakfast, lunch or dinner that has a variety of healthy menu items that taste great too! My recommendation? You cannot go wrong with the Sweet Potato Hash Bowl!
